El Colegio Arzobispo Fonseca is a declared monument of cultural interest in 1931. It was founded by the archbishop of Toledo Don Alonso de Fonseca and initiated its construction in 1519.

Like the rest of the university college, originally it was a charitable educational institution to provide scholarships for college for people without means, but soon lose this character to become a training tool of state bureaucracies and senior churchmen.
The building was designed by Juan de Álava, but further intervention was an important Siloe Diego, who designed the cover and the yard, without a doubt one of the most beautiful of the Spanish Renaissance. It also emphasizes the hood, with front and nave of Alava, dome, cruise and head of Rodrigo Gil de Hontañón and Alonso Berruguete altarpiece. College is located next to the inn, a building originally intended to house the college "guests" who had already completed their studies and were awaiting placement. It also articulated a baroque building around a courtyard which now houses the Graduate Center, Continuing Education and Cultural Activities at the University of Salamanca.
